This means it uses sixteen symbols, in this case 0–9 to represent values zero to nine, and A–F to represent values ten to fifteen. Hexadecimal is a positional numeral system with a radix, or base, of 16. Because it is the de-facto standard number system, it does not have any denotation. Decimal is called base10 because it uses ten values: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9. Decimal (also called base-ten, and occasionally called denary) is the standard system for denoting integer and non-integer numbers. To understand hexadecimal, you need to understand decimal. ![]()
